Quality Service Group was recently contracted by a client that specializes in the re-manufacturing of bearing housings. This customer needed a custom inspection and test plan to accommodate the quality that their processes required.

The friction bearings that they are working with are composed of metal cast components, and an industrial friction bearing. Their process included the disassembly of the housing using air drivers, and inspection for the presence of rust. Rust is then removed from all surfaces including the inside of the housing, through-holes, and bolts using low-carbon brushes and taps. This is followed by the application of a rust inhibitor, re-assembly of the housing and internal components, re-inspection, repackaging, and warehousing, which includes inventory control. We developed a comprehensive inspection and test plan that encompasses disassembly, inspection, rework, and reassembly. This included the layout to accommodate their required TAKT time and through-put, we also procured all of the tools and equipment, and trained employees. We completed this project in just 4 weeks; the customer was able to achieve their production and quality goals with a complete quality system that produces higher quality components in less time, for less cost.
